Sorcerer’s Circle Corner by Lance Rich
Attention all Sorcerer’s Circle Members!
We’re in exciting times! As I write this I’ve been reviewing the crop of applications for Sorcerers Circle. As I’ve mentioned in this column and at our meetings – the Sorcerers Circle honors those members who have gone above and beyond to help our club. You earn ‘points’ for attending all of our club functions, but you also earn ‘points’ for pitching in to help. If in the last year you have helped to move the stage, line up chairs, teach a trick, etc… you’ve earned some Sorcerers Circle points.
As I mentioned last month, this year we completely revamped the application process. In the middle of December all Ring members received an email link to an application survey. Most applicants have taken no more than five or ten minutes to complete the survey. I am excited by the number of applications we have received for the Sorcerers Circle so far this year. As I write this, we currently have 19 applications of Ring members applying for new membership or to earn a star. That is a significant increase over the applications received last year, so I believe it speaks volumes for this new system, and for our Ring’s abilities and interest in adapting to new methods. I suppose, it is fair to say that everything is up to date in Kansas City!
A perk of this system is that there is no math for you to figure out. Each question is weighted, and the points are tallied up by the system at the end. For example, the first question is: How many monthly club meetings have you attended this year?
You can answer by clicking on the corresponding ‘ box’. In this case, each meeting you attended was worth 10 points. So, if you were at 6 monthly meetings, when you clicked on that ‘box’, you earned 60 points.
A second perk of the system as I see it, is that because you haven’t added up any points yourself, you can’t be sure if you’re earning a SC Medallion or an SC Star this year. Therefore, at the Annual Stage Contest there will be some ‘mystery’ and anticipation from all those who applied.
The original email was sent in mid-December. I mentioned on our Face-book page to check spam folders just in case you didn’t receive it and in a few cases I have resent a link to some members. If you still have not re-ceived the email, please let me know at Lance@LanceRich.com.
